Calculating CULTEC Chambers When Used For Residential Downspout Drainage

CULTEC Chambers may be used in residential applications to control roof drain runoff. The chambers collect and store rainwater underground collected from gutters and roof leaders until the soil is able to accept it back into the ground. Their low profiles and high volume capacities make them ideal for smaller installations. Puddles and saturated soil are eliminated as water is diverted into the chamber(s) and recharged into the ground.

Calculations

Roof Area (ft2)             X            1 inch  [1]        = Volume (ft3)

No. of downspouts                   12 inches/ft

Volume (ft3)      =   No. of CULTEC Chambers required per downspout

ft3/ unit

Use measurements from the table below based on which unit you want to use.

Choose the Contactor® or Recharger® model with volume required and whether or not you want to use stone. Always remember to order units in either Standard Duty or Heavy Duty specifications. Vehicular traffic loading will determine the type of model.

[1] A design engineer or local building code official usually determines percentage of stormwater detention.  The amount of necessary rainfall detention varies around the country anywhere from a percentage of an inch all the way up to 3" of rainfall per storm.  They frequently base this measurement on your local 50 year or 100 year floods.  It is always wise to check with local code to set sizing of detention systems
